- EDITOR AT TSA ART MAGAZINE
From the extraordinary art of Otobong Nkanga to the Rainbow Soulclub, and from Sander Breure & Witte van Hulzen to Em'kal Eyongakpa, my route takes you from the heart of Amsterdam through the Jordaan to the edge of the city on Isolatorweg.
As a dedicated follower of Nkanga's practice, I suggest that you begin your experience at Lumen Travo gallery. Her works delicately combine ideas and questions on the relationship between humans and land resources. This curiosity expands in the other shows to subjects of the human condition, ecological concerns and identity. Open Air by Sander Breure & Witte van Hulzen promises to be a show not to miss. The two artists transform the gallery of tegenboschvanvreden into a surprise social experiment that challenges structures of exclusion.
Encounter poetic and symbolic actions in installations, sculptures, sound arts, videos, drawings, tapestry and more. Following the global events of 2020 and 2021, concerns about our collective humanity and environment are even more urgent, and they make these practices very important.
Bukola Oyebode is the lead editor at TSA Art Magazine, a digital and print publication covering contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora.
