About Annet Gelink Gallery

Annet Gelink Gallery is one of the leading contemporary art-galleries in the Netherlands. It is situated in the center of Amsterdam.

Since its foundation in 2000, the gallery has been exhibiting work of groundbreaking artists, ranging from drawing, painting and photography to installation and video art. The primary aim of the gallery is to show new tendencies and individuals, focusing on both Dutch and international art.

The gallery participates in major international art fairs such as Art Basel, Art Basel Miami Beach, Frieze Art Fair and ARTBO. Furthermore, Annet Gelink Gallery has been an early promoter of international artists such as Rita Ackermann, Yael Bartana, Ryan Gander, Roger Hiorns, David Maljkovic, Anya Gallaccio, Meiro Koizumi, Erik van Lieshout, Victor Man and Wilfredo Prieto.

The gallery’s project-space, ‘The Bakery’ shows young and upcoming artists and serves as a springboard for young talent.

Main Gallery: ‘In The Corner Of The Eye’, David Maljković

David Maljković’s (1973, Rijeka, Croatia) work is a highly controlled variant exploitation of formalist concerns. While narrative is the driving element at the origination of a project, the artist’s varied means of visual implementation profoundly modifies and compromises its supremacy. The process of construction within a set of formal directives encrypts the narrative and postulates what Maljković describes as a new semantic logic. His overall project is engaged in the variable relationship between form and content in art terms or signifier and signified, in linguistic terms; it is within this relationship that Maljković negotiates his formal methods and disjunctive intentions.

Bakkery: ‘Echo, Saturn-The Courts’, Omar Adnan Chowdhury

In The Bakery, Annet Gelink Gallery is pleased to present Echo, Saturn—The Courts, the first solo show by Omar Adnan Chowdhury at the gallery.

In the scenario of Echo, Saturn—The Courts Annet Gelink Gallery transforms and presents itself anew to its visitors. Through distinct installations spread over different areas of the gallery, evocative narratives merge to create an intangible atmosphere. The overarching and ruptured voices of the narrators accompany the audience in this journey through space and time, leaving them with uncertainty about what is real and what is not. 

The journey begins in the early 1980s when Dr. Shahidul Zaman first visited the law Courts archives of the Bangladeshi city of Rajshahi. Seeking a way to emigrate and resettle in Europe, Shahidul finds himself trapped in the bureaucracies of the law system. The selection of works, objects, actions, and interventions, coexist as witnesses of this journey. When wandering through the gallery, visitors are drawn to a faraway dimension saturated by multiple temporalities leading to a sense of disassociation and displacement.
